What Do A Banana and "Born This Way" Have In Common?

Admit it - you gotta love this kid!  He proudly sings Lady Gaga's, "Born This Way," and does a fabulous job dancing to it too!  Banana and all, he should be on Ellen.

How Many Times Was Princess Diana Mentioned?

I have witnessed the marriages of two Princesses to their Princes in my lifetime, and can quite honestly say, Princess Diana was on my mind during the ceremony of Kate and William.

How could she not be?  Here was the son of the late Princess getting married.

While alive, Diana was followed around the world on a daily basis, she was the world's Princess.  And from her wedding to Prince Charles, rumored affairs, a bitter divorce, and untimely death, people were, and still are fascinated by her.

Jezebel had a very interesting article yesterday; They pointed out how the media, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, and E! News, each had the late Princess on their minds during the ceremony, whereas BBC America didn't (or couldn't) bring themselves to mention Diana's name once.

I find this rather bizarre, considering it's an affiliate of BBC in Britain.  Regardless of their omission, It was nice seeing Kate marry William and thanks to our networks who covered, Will's mother, the late Princess of Wales, it will be another memory I can cherish forever.

Jim and Tracy welcome Chris Morgan, the kindergartener who wrote the latest action-packed "Fast And The Furious" sequel.

The Leader of the Birthers Doesn't Apologize

If none of you are familiar with Orly Taitz, I'll say it in three simple words... She's A Nut!  Oh wait, is that technically three words since there's an abbreviated one?  Oh never mind that - she's known as the Queen of the Birthers.  She was born in Russia, moved to the U.S. in 1987 and became an American citizen in 1992.  She's a dentist, a lawyer and The Leader of the Birthers!  LOL, it sounds like a movie, which I'm sure will be here sooner than we think.

"She also promotes a number of other allegations both related and unrelated to Obama, and has initiated a number of lawsuits on behalf of the "birther" movement." - Wikipedia
In either case, on Wednesday night's show of "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell," the crazy lady just wouldn't shut up.  Lawrence had her on the show, because President Obama had just released his long form birth certificate that morning.  He wanted her to apologize for the lies she spread over the past two years or so; Things didn't quite go as he planned - he had her kicked off the show.
"I invited a crazy person on the show to see if a crazy person faced with the thing that the crazy person was trying to get for the two-and-a-half years could say something responsive, something human to the document that was released today."

Game Change - The Sarah Palin Movie Casts Hottie, Justin Gaston

Sarah Palin is looking pretty good these days...  ha, ha, ha, gotcha!  This is not Sarah Palin - it's Julianne Moore - one of my all time favorite actresses. She will be playing the Alaska governor in the upcoming HBO movie, Game Change.  The Hollywood Reporter released this image of her yesterday and I'd have to say, she looks really darn good.
The actress nails Palin's look with a bright suit, patriotic flag pin and similar glasses. She also ditched her trademark red hair for Palin's brown style, which she wears in a look-alike updo.  Production begins on Wednesday for the movie, directed by Jay Roach and written by Danny Strong. Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are executive producers.  Ed Harris plays John McCain in the film, which follows the Arizona U.S. Senators failed 2008 Republican presidential bid. Woody Harrelsonplays Steve Schmidt, McCain's senior adviser. Temple Grandin’s Melissa Farman will play Bristol Palin, The Hollywood Reporter first reported Tuesday.
How dare they forget to mention the most important actor of all, Justin Gaston to their column.   He's playing Levi Johnston after all; Levi is Bristol's ex-husband.

Of course Justin is a thousand times hotter.

Knocking on Death's Door

Talk about amazing footage.   When I saw that car in the picture to the right, I was like - wow, that's fucking scary!

I would never give up my desk job to be a storm chaser; Besides, I'm going to die anyway according this report - might as well live as long as I can.  This happened in Mississippi the same day the tornado in Alabama destroyed neighborhoods, and came within yards of Alabama's University in Tuscaloosa.

I'm sorry, but this was too cute not to share.  Gives a whole new meaning to the word Copycat, doesn't it?

The Promotion of Hatred Exists

Thank you so much for the blog you posted yesterday, my love. Yeah, Bryan Fischer got me really upset Tuesday night when he talked about us like a disease in need of a cure. And he continued to irritate me when he referenced us being gay, a "lifestyle".

Exercise, clothing, vacationing, and how you present yourself are a lifestyle. A monogamous or non-monogamous relationship are also considered a lifestyle or a choice, but the actual attraction and love two individuals of the same gender share is NO lifestyle, and it's definitely not a choice. This has to be taught to everyone who uses that terminology, because it's really starting to piss me off.

The other thing this guy was trying to enforce, was that we, "the gays," are the ones who brought AIDS to America. What is this, 1980? Yes, men having sex with men are still the largest group of people that get HIV, but when I pull up the CDC website, I read that gay men only account for 53%, not 91% like that bastard claimed last night.

Gay men that use injection drugs count for another 4%, Straights make up 31% and straight injection drug users make up an additional 12% as reported in 2006 by the CDC in the US. This disease "may have" begun in the gay community, and I use "may have," because it's a theory. It is not a "gay only" disease. In fact, worldwide heterosexual intercourse does make up the majority of HIV cases.

If Mr. Family Values wants to help us out with the AIDS epidemic, he should have taught us how to safely have man to man sex - He shouldn't hide and shame it back to the 1980s. Sex education isn't the only way to promote safe sex; The American people need to have proper education when it comes to being gay in this country. In the 1950's the homosexuals were labeled as "child predators," when in fact, the child predators were actually straight males or females. Granted, if you check out most of the underage twinks at the clubs who can blame them. (Cough, cough) Kidding! Then came 1969 with the stonewall riots and other displays of the GLBT community fighting for its' rights. After the era of, "We're here, we're queer, get used to it" came the 1980's and HIV/AIDS epidemic. A new fight began, not only for our rights, but for our lives as well.

I take pride in knowing that our gay community has been proactive when it comes to promoting STD awareness, and spreading the message across that having safe sex is really the most important thing in this day and age - we've come a long way since then. Unfortunately, some gay idiots think they're immortal, don't care, have a death wish - I don't know, but they don't play safe. HIV and AIDS are not a thing of the past. I tell myself that quite possibly they don't know, but with the internet and all it's glory how can you not. Despite my assumption of a non-ignorant youth, there still needs to be some sort of education. Bring back mandatory sex education classes in school that talks more about gay sex and protection versus abstinence only, and I guarantee that the HIV rates will drop. Not talking about gay and straight sex and how to protect yourself against it, is what is leading to the spread of all these STDs and the struggle to treat it.

Going back to the education of "being gay," the American society needs to know that being gay is not about being suicidal, ashamed, closeted, drugged up, dying of AIDS, a villain, a loner, or someone to feel sorry for. Show someone that is proud of who they are - that is in a loving relationship with their parents and a partner. Show the public that gay exists outside of Project Runway. That gay kids in our schools are being bullied, That while others may be strong, others need our help. Glee is educating the public in the best way possible, and because of them hopefully the American people will be even more accepting of us. Glee has helped educate the public in the best way possible, and because of them hopefully the American people will be more accepting of us. This episode, which aired on Tuesday spread a message of acceptance and self-love; And with hope, it was heard by the hundreds of bullied and suicidal teens out there - possibly saving their life.

Of course the "American Family Association" doesn't want this and they'll say anything to scare America back to the 1950's when the homosexual was the boogie man predator. The sad thing is that by promoting hate and shouting "Gay is Bad" has serious consequences. All it does is make an innocent child think they're different - like they're the worst possible thing that exists on our world. God does not promote this hatred, so SHAME ON THEM for portraying it.

Unfortunately, they and organizations like them will always be around, because someone's always got to hate. Call it religious freedom or freedom of speech, it's still hate no matter how you call it. Like the Ku Klux Klan, the AFA will one day shrink to almost nothing. Until then, things like the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, as well as other major gay civil rights accomplishments will continue to make the word GAY a less uncomfortable subject to talk about. Maybe one day we will have all our rights, including the ability to marry, and we can all thank Glee for it's positive influence on gay people. Even if Kurt is annoying at times, I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

Movies to Watch: X-men: First Class (First Full-Length Trailer)

Yesterday, the first full-length trailer to X-men: First Class was released, and I'd have to say it is so much better than the teaser they gave us in February.  I have never been so excited about a summer, as Ryan and I will be this year.  I'll be honest, I don't know much about the characters, because I was into He-man, She-ra, Wonder Woman, The Incredible Hulk, Superman, The Transformers, and countless others when I was growing up.  But after watching all the X-men movies, and now this one, I'm eager to learn more about their lives and their struggle to become X-men.

Oh and as a special treat, there is a UK version after the jump - make sure to check that out too!

Should You Bring It Up?

Wow, the question we always ask ourselves when we want to ask someone something, but aren't sure if we should.  Let this helpful chart guide you.

Scary Tuscaloosa, Alabama Tornado Destroys the City

I want to start Thursday's blogging by paying respects to the people in Alabama and nearby states who have just gone through a horrendous ordeal.  I cannot imagine encountering a nearly 1 mile-wide tornado coming towards me.  I received a CNN alert on my iPad 30 minutes ago stating 128 people had been killed with many more unaccounted for by the storms yesterday afternoon.

If you thought the movie, "Twister" was horrifying - when you see actual footage as  in the videos to the right and below, the movie becomes child's play.

This has got to be one of the most scariest things to ever go through.  At least with Hurricanes we have warning days and sometimes weeks in advance - with tornadoes, the most you have is a few minutes, if any.  The tornado that passed through Tuscaloosa, Alabama yesterday afternoon, literally destroyed parts of the city in minutes.  In the actual footage shot yesterday (below),  you clearly see how powerful this tornado was - it came within yards of the University you see below it.  Imagine how students and parents were feeling watching this live from their dorm rooms and homes.

I ask that you pray with me in helping everyone deal with the horrible disaster in the region.

Is TV Too Gay?

This is the question posed by our local Fox News channel during a commercial break last night as we watched the ever-popular television show, GLEE.  Ryan and I were overcome with astonishment that he set the DVR to record the news immediately afterwards.  And sure enough, Bryan Fischer from the American Family Association was there to spread his message of hate. Oh by the way, he's the director of "Issues Analysis" (Go Figure).  But for those unfamiliar with him, he's a despicable human being who condemns everything you can possibly think of - he's almost as crazy as Fred Phelps.  He can't stand Gays, Hispanics, Muslims or Blacks.

So after watching the fabulous cast sing Lady Gaga's, "Born This Way" as a condemnation towards the bullying and hatred in our schools, we watched the news segment.

I felt small droplets of water fall onto my hand as I turned around and saw Ryan dripping with sweat - all I could see was red in his eyes. As he grunted and moaned, it was evident he had become agitated over this particular issue.  Unlike myself, I'm able to hold it in a little longer, but then I'll let it all out - a day or two later.  Like now...

Mr Fischer starts out by saying, What these television programs are doing is glamorizing homosexual behavior, glamorizing homosexual conduct. This is conduct that carries enormous psychological and physical risks to those who engage in it. It’s just not a lifestyle, it’s not behavior that ought to be glamorized or presented in a way that makes it idealistic.

Here is a man who thinks gay relationships are like "drug use," and furthermore, believes placing the show in a 7 PM slot the "relationships" would be viewed as "product placements".  You know - kinda like show me a Coke or a Pepsi, and I'll buy it.  Because straight people are going to jump at the chance of being gay.  I can already hear my straight brothers and sisters saying, "Oh I want to be one of those."

Sorry to burst your bubble, but we were born this way, Mr. Fischer, Sir!

Later the news anchor asks him,"So what about the time slot? It comes on at 7 o’clock, is that a little bit too early or is that right on time?"  He responds, “I think its terrible timing. As you pointed out advertisers purchase time on television programs because they know that what people see on television influences their behavior and influences their choices. We know from the Centers for Disease Control that 91% of the males who have been diagnosed with HIV-AIDS since the epidemic began contracted it through having sex with other men man or through injection drug abuse. That means that homosexual behavior is just as risky and just as dangerous as injection drug use and we should not glamorize it anymore than we would glamorize intravenous drug use.

Really?  Really?  I'm not even going to bring up the statistics he mentioned or how AIDS is spread; everyone should be intelligent enough to know the facts.

A fellow blogger wrote, "were Fischer and his clan up in arms when the first season was dedicated to teenage pregnancy, where the “virginia” cheerleader tricked the clueless football player into believing that he was the actual father? Where is that discussion?  That issue showed lack of birth control, lying, deceit – whereas the story involving homosexuality is about the character being true to himself and finding love along the way. After all, homosexuals are surrounded by heterosexual stories all day long when it comes to television programming – it is about time that we get in on that spotlight as well."

When I was looking for the news video to post on my blog, I was happy to see all the gracious comments on myfoxhouston.com, including the one below from a loving mother,
My son is Gay and its not a choice!!!! Could anyone wake up and say I want to be gay today? I can promise you if you watch TV you wont turn Gay. Everyone has the right to be who they are, this is America. Don't judge that's God's job.
And another,
Too Gay!? Are you kidding me? It's not even close to being as inclusive as it should be. There are hundreds and hundreds of shows on TV that feature a straight-only cast and only a handful of shows nowadays that feature gay characters. Glee is probably the only primetime TV show that give its gay characters equal treatment as its straight ones. This is nothing. This barely graze the surface of how television should be.

Having gay characters on TV is important. It's empowering to gay kids and teens in a time when that is desperately needed. Just like seeing courageous, powerful women on TV is empowering to women, or seeing strong, successful black characters on TV is empowering to Black Americans... gay Americans deserve equal representation. There are a lot of gay people in our society, and they need a face on primetime TV...not just as a comedic sidekick, not as some psychotic murderer, not as some tragic figure who ends up dying broken and alone...but a regular happy, healthy individual surrounded by loving friends and family, who triumphs over adversity and finds love in the end. Kids need to see this. It teaches an important lesson about bullying and offers hope to kids who are going through similar situations.

Also, anyone who thinks "family values" conflict with homosexuality has clearly never watch Kurt Hummel and his father interact on Glee. These two characters are the epitome of what family should be...loving, supportive, and accepting of each other no matter what. Parents everywhere should take lesson from Burt Hummel. Unless, of course, "family values" for you translates to rejecting and kicking your gay son out of the house because of his sexuality. In that case, America doesn't need your kind of "family values" reflected on TV.

So now let's watch the Glee cast sing "Born This Way"

Church Signs Gone Wild

This sure gives a whole new meaning to spreading The Message.

Raja Takes The Crown

On Monday night, as Ryan, and our friends watched the season finale of RuPaul's Drag Race, we were all waiting in anticipation for the final results.  "And the winner is......"

RAJA.

The contest was down to the final three, Alexis Mateo, Manilla Luzon and Raja.  They each filmed a music video with their Mama, RuPaul for her single, "Champion."  They were dragged up as Greek goddesses and looked absolutely fabulous, although Alexis Mateo's hair was on the larger side, she managed to make us laugh with her response, "The higher the hair, the closer to God."

Raja walked away with a lifetime supply of Kryolan Professional Makeup, a cash prize of $75,000 and a headlining spot on Logo's Drag Race Tour.  She will also be a spokesperson for Absolut Vodka, as all the drag queens usually are.

Check out the music video, "Champion" featuring the final three contestants, and feel free to read the interview given to Raja here.  The interview was given by Jethro Nededog at Zap2it, in regard to her controversial win.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words - Issue 1

As most of you may know, I'm a huge fan of quotations and typography.

When I used Facebook as my only source of communication with the outside world I would post them on a daily basis.  The main reason I resorted to blogging was because I couldn't find issues or topics I had previously discussed, and became frustrated with that.

Barack Obama Burdened
I came across a typographical portrait of President Obama while "googling" for some pics and wanted to share it with my viewers.  The portrait, created by Dylan Roscover consists of 12,680 individual characters, and was featured on the Table of Contents page of the February 1, 2010 edition of TIME magazine.

About the artist, I couldn't have stated it any better myself:

"Dylan Roscover is a brilliant graphic designer who creates a wide variety of striking digital media pieces. This portrait of Obama uses typography to expertly illustrate the pressure and incredible burdens our president has to deal with while in office. The craftsmanship and composition of this typography portrait is remarkable and definitely deserves a standing ovation" - Taro13

I hope to continue this as a daily or weekly series, it all depends on the amount of time I have in the day.  Please feel free to share your thoughts or opinions on this.

Sitting on The Job 10 Years or More Means You Have a 94% Chance of Developing a Tumor

According to The Telegraph, a new research study from the University of Western Australia states a team of researchers found that if you work 10 years or more in a sedentary job you have a 94% chance of developing a tumor, and a 44% chance of developing rectum cancer.

In simpler terms, if you're sitting on your ass all day in a cubicle or desk - you don't have much longer to live.  And it doesn't matter if you exercise or workout when you get out of work or on weekends, you are developing a tumor whether you like it or not!
‘Even a high level of vigorous recreational physical activity did not modify the effect of sedentary work.’ And they warned: ‘The findings have occupational health implications, given that advances in technology have led to increasing amounts of sedentary behaviour at work.’
And in other developing news....  sitting down for lengthy periods of time also increases blood sugar levels - so you're going to develop diabetes which will also lead to colon cancer!

Boy, am I screwed!

Worst Persons of the Day with Keith Olbermann - 04/25/2011

As I mentioned last Wednesday, Keith Olbermann has been blogging for quite sometime now, and yesterday morning I had the pleasure of reading about some exciting news being released today.

On one of his special segments titled, "First Guess," Keith posted the following:
WATCH THIS SPACE
As I mentioned on Twitter, we will have some big announcements tomorrow morning (Tuesday the 26th) about the new show on Current. There will be morning tweets, morning news stories, and, only on this site – VIDEO. Sorry for the suspense (not really, but I have to say that, don’t I?)
Until we hear the news today, let's see who were the Worst Persons of the Day yesterday.

Update:
Just as I was posting this blog, Keith releases a video on his special announcement.  And it's true!!! Countdown with Keith Olbermann will debut on Current TV on Monday, June 20th!  And it seems like MSNBC didn't trademark Countdown, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to do that.  As Olbermann states in his special announcement, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Update:
Keith's video, "Worst Persons of the Day" was removed and replaced with the special announcement video, so if you still wish to know what was on the original video. Here is the transcript.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible

I actually watched the video below yesterday morning, and got so sickened by it, I couldn't bring myself to blog about it.  I can honestly say, not very many people make me angry or sick to my stomach, but the very people who were behind this horrible beating, made me extremely nauseous.

Also, yesterday morning I had just finished blogging about another McDonald's incident that occurred a couple of weeks ago when I came across this one. What these young girls did is beyond redemption, it is so serious that investigators are now contemplating pressing hate crime charges on the perpetrators.

The vicious girls, who are 14 and 18 yrs old, dragged 22 year old Chrissy Lee Polis across the McDonald's restaurant to the point where her hair was literally being torn off her scalp.  It is one of the most disturbing videos I have ever seen.  And my anger is also directed at the McDonald's employees who were taping and watching the incident with no one offering to help.  A customer attempted to help her, but the kicking and beating simply continued.

Update:

The McDonald's employee who taped the incident has been fired, and the franchise owner says he may take further action against her employees.  All I can say is, God Bless her, because McDonald's may have several lawsuits heading their way.  Even if they don't go to trial, settlements could ensue.

Our Native American Lands

It's mind-blowing to me, that as a "Land of the Free" we managed to strip-away millions upon millions of acres from those who called this their home hundreds of years before we did.  This chart will give you a perspective on what has transpired over the past 224 years alone.

This is a series of maps charting the shrinkage of Native American lands over time, from 1784 to the present day.  Made because I was having trouble visualizing the sheer scale of the land loss, and reading numbers like “blah blah million acres” wasn’t really doing it for me.  The gif is based on a collection of maps by Sam B. Hilliard of Louisiana State University.  You can see the original map here.

For those who do prefer dealing in numbers, here are some:
By 1881, Indian landholdings in the United States had plummeted to 156 million acres. By 1934, only about 50 million acres remained (an area the size of Idaho and Washington) as a result of the General Allotment Act* of 1887. During World War II, the government took 500,000 more acres for military use. Over one hundred tribes, bands, and Rancherias relinquished their lands under various acts of Congress during the termination era of the 1950s.
By 1955, the indigenous land base had shrunk to just 2.3 percent of its original size.

The Hidden Door

I guess no one can break-in through your garage, if you don't have one.  I must say, whoever created this is quite talented.

Though... after 2 million views on YouTube, I highly doubt it's a secret anymore, LOL.

Were' Done With Dallas!

After two long years (357 episodes of oil drilling, backstabbing, and back-handed deals that included sex, adultery, alcohol, drugs, gays, murderers, and BBQs), Ryan and I finished watching 14 seasons of one of the world's most-beloved televisions series of all time - DALLAS.  And it couldn't have happened at a much better time, because it wasn't until a few months ago that we learned the show was returning to our TV sets in the fall.

It is not a remake as many people thought it was going to be, but for all intent and purposes it's a continuation of the drama that makes up the Ewing family.

Of course, along with seeing J.R.,

Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing

you'll be seeing his son, John Ross...

Josh Henderson as John Ross Ewing

And along with seeing J.R.'s brother, Bobby,

Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing

you'll be seeing his son Christopher...

Jesse Metcalfe as Christopher Ewing

Yes, you got that right.  It's the Ewing boys all grown up, and the producers couldn't have made a better casting decision when it came to finding who would play John Ross Ewing, III and Christopher Ewing, the sons of J.R. and Bobby respectively.

Josh Henderson is perfect for the role of John Ross, he has the aura of a bad boy that will work well with his character, and Jesse Metcalfe who will be playing the adopted son of Bobby and Pamela Ewing is just the right pick to play Christopher, because while Bobby was the heart of the show, J.R. played to it's strengths.

Ryan and I have yet to start watching the two movies that came 5 and 7 years after the series ended, but as soon as we are done with those, we will be hot and ready for the continuation of Dallas airing on TNT this fall - it's been 13 years too long. We are definitely excited.
